The sacred mantra OM MANI PADME HUM (OM MANI PEME HUNG, Tibetan) is the monks' and practitioners' mantra, requesting the liberation of all souls here in samsara (material existence). It is called the "Great vehicle" or Mahayana because its intention is not just personal salvation, but the salvation and liberation of all, unconditionally. |

| DryFact | May 18, 2007 9:58am | Tibetan Buddhism is the closest thing in the world to how Buddhism was in India before the Muslims invaded. the Tibetan Buddhist canon is the most comprehensive and authoritative body of Buddhist writing preserved in any language (even though much of it was destroyed by the Chinese Communists and the cultural revolution)
so scholars of Buddhism all learn sanskrit and classical Tibetan, without exception |
